Located on the foot hills of the Shivalik Hills, Chandigarh is the capital of both states Haryana as well as Punjab and is also a union territory. Chandigarh city has its name derived from an old temple devoted to Goddess Chandi. Formed out of the partition of India and Pakistan, Chandigarh is relatively a new city. It exudes a rare mix of the old and the new, giving it a distinct personality. The city was designed by French architect Charles Edouard Jeanneret, also known as Le Corbusier. It is today considered as one of the best planned cities of the country, with absolutely no slums.

The people of Chandigarh are full of life and easy going. They are greatly influenced by Punjab. The cuisine and language of Chandigarh is Punjabi itself. Even though English and Hindi is spoken here, the Punjabi accent is quite evident is the speech of the people. Chandigarh is also considered to be the cultural capital of the region. The city holds a number of exhibitions, musical & dance shows and theatre performances locally. Chandigarh also houses some great shopping malls and interesting markets. In fact it is one of the most fashionable cities in the North Region.

How to Reach Chandigarh:
By Air: Chandigarh has a domestic airport, located only 8 km away from the city center. There are a number of flights connected to Delhi airport. The Delhi airport is connected to all major cities of India and most cities abroad.

By Train: Chandigarh is connected by rail to most of the cities in Punjab, Haryana and also to Delhi. One can also get connecting trains to Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore and Trivandrum and Lucknow.

By Road: Chandigarh is well connected by road to Shimla (110 km), Manali (320 km), New Delhi (260 km) and Dehradun (175 km).
